Independent Federal Member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines MP and Victorian Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy have united in a call to the Victorian Government to boost support for businesses affected by the Bogong High Plains Road landslide.

The delegation will explore US-Australia relations and deepen Australian parliamentarians’ understanding of US foreign and defence policy.

Dr Haines voted in support of the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Bill after it returned to the House of Representatives following Senate amendments.

This bill is a temporary measure in a time of crisis. We must maximise the opportunity for investment that creates new skills and new jobs, especially in regional Australia, where most of our future energy generation will occur.

The condition of regional and rural roads following severe weather events will be the subject of an inquiry by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Regional Development, Infrastructure and Transport.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission has been legislated by the Federal Parliament, and will be established in the new year.

I rise in support of these amendments and, indeed, in support of the National Anti-Corruption Commission Bill 2022.

I support the motion. It gives me no joy to do so.

It’s well known that across Australia we have a shortage of health professionals, but rural areas are disproportionately suffering from this shortage, and we know this has been a longstanding challenge.
