Helen Haines has welcomed more than $6 million in funding for bridge replacement, safety and access upgrades across Indi.
The Bridges Renewal Program and Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program has allocated $6.033 million for bridgeworks in Alpine, Murrindindi, Towong and Wangaratta local government areas.
The Independent Federal Member for Indi said the year had been a tough one for North East communities.
“More investment in regional infrastructure, particularly in Alpine and Towong shires directly affected by summer’s bushfires and the COVID-19 and border restrictions that followed, will certainly help those communities as they continue through recovery,” Dr Haines said.
In Alpine Shire, more than $1.3m will be spent upgrading Bay Creek bridge and strengthening Myrtleford’s Nimmo bridge.
In Towong Shire, almost $1.4m will fund deviation to an alternative heavy vehicle route away from Corryong’s main street.
In Murrindindi Shire, more than $2.4m will pay for bridgeworks in Glenburn, Gobur, Yea and Eildon.
Another $890,000 will be spent in the Rural City of Wangaratta – $290,000 replacing a bridge on Developmental Road near Springhurst and $600,000 to improve paving, widen and kerbing on Sanford Road.
