Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines has welcomed the announcement that a new bridge will be built on Indigo Creek Road, after the Federal Government awarded $1.24 million to the project through the Bridges Renewal Program.

“The confirmation of funding for a new bridge on this key link road is wonderful news for people in the Indigo Valley,” Dr Haines said.

A temporary bridge and access road has been in place for local traffic since a section of the road was closed almost a year ago when a major culvert failed in last year’s spring floods.

“The creation of the temporary bridge has kept the road open, but drivers have had to deal with delays and congestion.

“This funding will allow the community to build back stronger with a single-span, two lane road bridge over Indigo Creek, and I congratulate Indigo Shire Council for working hard to win this funding for their communities.”

Announced by the Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Kristy McBain, the new bridge is one of eleven projects that will share in $41 million under the Bridges Renewal Program funding, an $85 million per year federal program.
