Sixteen Indi community organisations awarded a share of $150,000 Stronger Communities grant funding
Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines has announced $150,000 in grant funding going to Indi community organisations as part of the Stronger Communities Programme.
The sixteen successful organisations were awarded between $3,100 and $15,000 to undertake projects across communities in Indi. These grants will support organisations to maintain and improve infrastructure and facilities, and enable groups to purchase much-needed equipment.
“It is always a delight and a privilege to see the hard-working community groups across Indi recognised in their efforts,” Dr Haines said.
Successful recipients include Corryong Foodshare, the Bonnie Doon Football Club and Euroa Citizens Band, who are all using the funding for much-needed facilities upgrades. Euroa Citizens Band will be upgrading the band hall kitchen, a space used regularly used by several community groups.
Waminda Community House successfully received funding to purchase a coffee machine and equipment to encourage skill building and adult education as well as fostering social engagement across the community. Indigo Shire Council will install shade sails at the Tangambalanga Active Park, and Tarrawingee Recreation Reserve Committee of Management will install a solar power battery system to support the future needs of the area.
“From Bethanga and Talgarno right across to Euroa, Bonnie Doon and Yea, groups in Indi are coming up with fabulous initiatives and supporting our communities,” Dr Haines said.
“So many of these projects are occurring in shared spaces across our communities, in the community halls, shared recreation reserves and our art spaces. It is wonderful to know the benefits from this funding will expand right across our communities.
“Congratulations to everyone who was successful in this round of funding! I am looking forward to seeing your fabulous initiatives progress.”
Some 116 expressions of interest were received for the programme across Indi, with each assessed on their ability to encourage and support participation in local projects, increase community participation and contribute to vibrant and viable communities.
“The number of quality projects we reviewed is a testament of the incredible projects happening right across Indi.”
